Haunt: Jan’s Antiques 01/24/11
Looking around Chicago for fixtures for your old home? Anything from keyplates, to heat registers, to spindles, chandeliers, and tiles. It would be easier to list the things they don’t have and everything they do have, there’s lots and lots of.
Fi and I found ourselves at Jan’s yesterday after a trip to Salvage One didn’t pan out for us. -Is it just me or does that place seem more event venue and less cool junk place these days? Wandering up and down a couple of aisles, we came upon “the” Jan, going through some papers at her desk. She is charming and elegant and actually knows where every single thing is in this place.
I didn’t get what I was looking for, but I did leave with a beautiful depression glass bowl, some movie marquis letters, and a cool old sewing cabinet drawer that’ll be a great stash spot for pens and misc. counter clutter in my kitchen.
My reco: Go. Dress warm (it’s not heated in there). Bring a very large cup of really good coffee. Be totally cool with getting lost and losing track of an entire afternoon. This isn’t a place for shopping. It’s a place for treasure hunting.

*sigh* =)
I’m so jealous!
Hey! Either of you could end up here at any time! If you do, we’ll go. Then I’ll buy the first round. :)
Hello! My name is JJ and I’m making a video about Jan’s Antiques for a project for AP Art, i’m a senior in high school. I’m hoping to get some customer’s personal opinion on the unique and truly unreal collection Jan has to offer, and was wondering if you could possibly answer a couple of questions for me? I totally understand if you would be uncomfortable doing so. anyway, great photos! Have a great day, and enjoy this weather!
