Fabric for the stuff I did not sew this weekend

I had big plans to sew the crap out of some stuff this weekend, but the weather outside was just too pretty. Then our friends Dan and Carolyn got married yesterday in a ceremony perfectly timed with the purported rapture. (Everyone we know was still in the room by the end of the night, verifying that they are all complete heathens.)

We did manage to get a lot of plants into some dirt, but these sewing plans for the Shasta are next on the to-do list:

Sewing an awning for a vintage camper. Our blogger buddy at This Montana Life has posted a very nice tutorial.

Sewing box cushions for the dinette area. Martha has that covered, naturally. (Hah! Covered! Brilliant! Ok, I’m wiped out from yard work.)

Then a slip cover for an antique army cot. Again, thanks Martha. (I can’t help it if her tutorials are good.)

Umm…army cot with slipcover? Love it so so much!!!
I, too, had big plans for sewing this weekend, but then the siren song of sunshine and swimming pool beckoned and I was at a loss for productive things to do.

Hee! Yeah…once winter breaks around here, it’s awfully hard to make yourself stay inside. -Even for such a fun project.

I started sewing a small quilt. Got all full of myself. Then realized the first row was completely off : P. Now I’ve lost my steam because I have to pull it out – stinker. Sounds like you got a lot done!

Hey, just came across your blog as I googled “vintage camper decorating.” Getting ready to redo our camper, and it’s funny the similarities our campers have (same floor, same avocado green appliances, same future – I’m using teal and green too!) While yours is actually a “vintage,” I’m calling mine that but it’s really a 1973 which is not quite considered vintage. Would have loved something a little older but the search and the price were prohibitive…*sigh.* I do love the 13 footer we purchased though!

I’m just finishing up reupholstering the dinette cushions which I’ll post pics of soon…if you have time check out our camper redo here: http://nestingprojects.blogspot.com/. It’s so much fun!!!

Look forward to future posts to see what else you’re doing. Oh, and I was just searching for foam for our camper bed…great idea on the futon. We’ll see what we end up dong.

Hi Paula,

I think ’73 is “vintage”. Vintage is usually applied when things are old, but not “antique”. According to Answers.com, “vintage” is used when an item is over 7 years old. (??)

As in, “My vintage daughter will be 10 this summer.”

Or…uhm…yeah.

Anyway, so swing that word around all you want with regard to your cute new camper.

I had an idea this weekend that I’m wondering about. I was at IKEA and they had twin-size foam mattresses for $99 and as low as $74 in the as-is section. Why couldn’t we take the zippered cover off and cut those up for dinette cushions?

Anyone?

Foam is EXPENSIVE! I’d like to think there’s a clever way to get it without paying $300 or more.

Ooh, I’ve got that bench cushion on my list now. Though I feel like I need to get my sewing machine tuned up. Is that something people do? I can not get it to stop bungling up the threads no matter what I do to the tension.

Absolutely love your site, your store and your style.

Tanya! I’m so glad you left a comment. I totally got distracted from getting together with you in town. Are you guys around this weekend? Will you be going to the parade?

To answer your question, absolutely yes, people do take their sewing machines in for tune ups. There’s an older gentleman who goes to the Hancocks in North Riverside every week. I think it’s Mondays, but check to be sure. He sits in the front of the store and tunes up & fixes sewing machines for the customers. Nice old guy.

Take care! Hope to meet you soon.

Hey. For the internets we are communicating in slow mode here, ha! Thank you so much, I am going to see if I can bring my machine in. Though after making a baby quilt I’m starting to think that my bobbin winding skills have something to do with the issue. I’m gonna contact you directly about meeting up, sorry we didn’t hook up at the parade!
