…on the vintage camper
My super-awesome husband finished painting the front 2/3rds of the camper and added my lights. I’m saving the original fixtures in case we ever sell it, but I wanted something a little more old beach house and less mid-century modern. The decor is heavily inspired by my childhood spent on the beaches of Galveston Island.
I got the front curtain up. It’s re-used from a previous kitchen done in a vintage farmhouse style, so I’ll need to add an extra panel along the bottom for the extra length. They were made after we returned from a trip to The Grand Hotel in Mackinac Island, Michigan. Everything there is painted white to serve as a fresh background for clusters of red geraniums that are everywhere you turn. I was inspired by how romantic it all felt that when we got home that I went on a years-long geranium bender. Perfume, soaps, garden…They’re all over the place.
Anyway…Point being, I like the curtains.
Also painted the ice box and Dave replaced a rotten part of the floor. Lots and lots of hard work, but I think it’s really coming along.

Love the new look!! Perfect for a trip out East, sista! Seriously, though, I find the whole thing exciting and inspiring–kudos!
Hi Alana! I could not access your email so I am writing this way. I have seen your camper and such on FB and your blog and finally got a chance to read about it and all. How cool it is! We purchased a 1976 trailer on a lake in Sisters Lakes MI (we also are from outside of Chicago) and it was pure vintage. We did a lot of work to it (painted the inside, battenburg lace curtains, vintage beach theme-ish) but we ended up getting a different trailer a few years ago- a fifth wheel. We don’t travel with it- it stays in MI. The place we have it is pure 1920′s-1950′s resort- green cottages and all. It’s like stepping back into time- nothing ever changes there! I saw you mentioned the Red Arrow Hwy- have you been as far as St. Joseph? That is one of my fav spots ever. We are about 20 min. away from St. Joe’s- our area is dotted with lakes and orchards and vineyards- it’s just beautiful!! If you get a chance, please email me and I would be happy to share some other spots I know of with you as well.

Hi Patti,
We LOVE St. Joe! I go out there as often as I can. I’d love to hear more about your haunts out that way. The resort sounds absolutely dreamy. There are so many places that have that vibe out that way. Let’s make arrangements to enjoy a glass of wine out in your hood sometime this summer.
