I have no idea where this came from, but I've had an ongoing obsession with chairs for DECADES. They can be a sculptural object or a canvas for me to craft into something fresh and useful. Maybe it has something to do with my emotional attachment with my grandmother's kitchen chair, which currently sits in front of my piano in the front room of our home.
I don't know what it is, but I do love painting an old alley pick and recovering the seat in some pretty fabric, and giving it a new round. I currently have n...

Over at Making it Lovely, Nicole has been helping a neighbor make over their master bedroom. It always goes this way, doesn't it? We fuss over the common areas, the childrens' rooms, even the pet's beds before we make a peaceful and beautiful place to rest at the end of the day.

Using only a $1500 budget and amending with items the homeowner already had, they created a clean, fresh, beautiful space that wasn't so feminine that a husband wouldn't feel like the space didn't co...

Everyone has folks on their list who are hard to shop for. I've rounded up a few of my favorite gift items from my shop in hopes that they may provide a little inspiration.
From left to right, starting at the top:
Vintage-style enamel thermometers: Birds, chickens, butterflies, angels...I've yet to meet a woman who doesn't love one of these things. And what a pretty touch to her garden or just outside a window to cheer up a gray winter morning.
The ultimate gardener's friend...

I sent a note out via Facebook this morning that I've been looking for an old china cabinet to fix up and use for linen storage. Well, my friend Ali pinged me back that she had a corner cabinet that had belonged to her grandmother and it was just sitting in her garage waiting for some new fun. So we negotiated, sent some notes back and forth (Man, she's a tough one! -kidding.) and a deal was struck. Now this lovely beauty is mine and I get to plan her rehab. We don't know anything about the history other tha...

I've been keeping my eyes out for an old china cabinet to fix up. I'm going to use it to store linens outside our laundry room. It needs to be narrow in width and length and probably no taller than 6 feet or so. If you're in the Chicago area or within a couple of hours' drive, would you let me know if a good candidate is in your local thrift/antique/junk shop. I'm looking to keep it in the neighborhood of $50.
Thank you!

This is our second year in our classic Chicago bungalow. It has beautiful Arts and Crafts era details, so I don't want to overwhelm it with decorations. This year I'm keeping it clean and classic. White twinkle lights and lots of greenery. The space I'd like to really do right is the front entryway. I've been Pinning all sorts of ideas and I think I've decided to do natural pine boughs (I love the loose drippiness) and a pine wreath with a loosely wrapped ribbon instead of the traditional bow. Then I'll hit up area t...

As you do your Christmas shopping this year, I hope you'll give some consideration not only to small business brick-and-mortars, but to small shop owners who have set up their business online.
My shop, Bluebird Goods, is made up of me, a few wire racks of stock in my basement, and my friend Spencer who does all of our stocking and shipping. Someday we'll have a big, fancy boutique, but for now we're having a blast with the website. I hope we can have the privilege of your patronage this holiday season. Thank you!

Oh, I was on a roll! Until some vicious bug took me down over the weekend. I've abandoned my sweet little blog for vats of Pepto and quality time on the daybed. Ugh.
So I'm totally pulling a cheater cheater pumpkin eater blog post by sharing this bit of brilliance spotted over at Oilcloth Addict (in the name of Blog Love). It's one of those "Ahh! So easy! So smart! So cute! I'm so doing this!" things. Kelly has taken oilcloth faced with a chalkboard finish and trimmed it so that it's an exact fit to h...
