French wire planters 05/22/10

My new favorite things to hunt for are old French wire planters to take home and spray-paint sunny yellow. They must be making a comeback because I've been seeing new versions all over the place. But before you drop some cash at your local C&B, check out the antique shops. There are many good finds to be picked up on the cheap. Plus finding a good deal in an antique shop is so much more sporting, isn't it? French wire planters by kitschykitten.com on Polyvore.comItems in this set: terrain: Lotus Wall Planter, ...

Make a Terrarium: Tuesday night crafty 05/11/10

This evening Fi and I put together a terrarium for our poor, homeless gnome. He's sheltered by a money tree and flanked with angel plants and live moss we culled from the front yard. Front yard “before” 03/13/10

At least, I hope at the end of the summer it looks like a "before"! I need a serious landscaping intervention. Last summer I had big plans, but then it turned out that I was mammoth pregnant and just couldn't do it. So this---this is the summer when magic will happen in our front yard. I'd love ideas and suggestions! I'm thinking English garden, very loose and pretty. The yard is partly shady much of the day, and we're zone 5a. Thoughts?

Taxes, laundry, dirt, and ba-ba-ba. 02/07/10

I sat up last night and did our taxes, alternately grinning and scowling as I watched the Turbo Tax numbers roll up-up-up, then down. Then up, then down, then up. Woohoo! Up is good. So we'll have a little refund this year, which is awesome because we have a handful of things we really should get done around the house. On our list is to finish the 3rd floor bedroom so we can sleep up there and give Will his own room. We need to fence in the backyard. A new refrigerator would be both an energy and money saver over the...
